Post Express Helper
Guild Wars 2 is one of the
better MMO games out there. It is free-to-play. It has a
good value to those who choose to pay for additional content. The
game has frequent updates. There are mechanisms which allow the
most novice players to play the same content as the most experienced
of players - with the novices not feeling useless and the experienced
not feel over-powered.
ArenaNet had opened up an API to
those who wished to write 3rd party programs for Guild Wars 2 and
I thought it might be interesting to play with the API. Turns out,
it is quite informative and wrote a few programs for my personal
benefit.
Naturally, why not standardize the code, polish up the interface and
then release the software? The results are below:
What Trading Post Express Helper does is download the current prices
and presents the information in a more visually pleasing manner, as you
can plainly see. Items are chosen based on popularity and
desirability.
Notes:
This is NOT intended as a "day trading" tool. ArenaNet has taken
some steps to diminish day trading;
- Prices fetched through the API are updated every three
(3) minutes. So as a result, you may or may not get the price
listed when polled.
- There is a 5% listing fee and a 10% trading fee.
This 15% fee makes day trading impractical. This makes sense as
well. Do we really want a game where a one copper change in price
will trigger a few million transactions going from one bulk trading
account to another? This does nothing for the game, and causes a
large load on the servers which is really not needed.
version .49 - Added lots of End of Dragons stuff. (Aurene Legendaries, Jade Bot). Some GUI improvements Fixed an issue which Microsoft deemed important but is really useless.

which already have prices. Cleaned up the presentation.

A full home instance of 63 nodes consists of:
- Gem Store Purchases
- Black Lion Chest Upgrades
- Achievement Unlocks
- Vendor Offerings
The Home Instance
tab gives the value of each item
mined in a full home instance.
Some items give a known quantity so its value can be easily calculated;
such as the gift from the Winterday
Tree. Others give variable amounts, such as the Candy Corn node. In such
cases, average loot drop rate is used to calculate the value.
Cloth and Leather
nodes can give 0-9 of each tier offered. For these, we are
assuming 2 of each node. This is because the drop rate is 1-3
pieces, averaging 2 pieces, of each tier. This can happen 3 times
per node. Again, we assume each tier is selected once although on
a particular day, you can receive anywhere from 0-9.
This calculation does NOT include three (3) plant
nodes which can give 1-2 of a wide variety of plants; basically every
core plant can be obtained through these nodes. As a result, it
is infeasible to include such
items as they range from the very inexpensive to worthwhile.
This calculation also does NOT include items which are account-bound. How can you
place a value on those items?
This calculation also does NOT include the Found Bandit Chest nor the three (3)
Heart of Thorn
chests. These items require a key to open them. In
addition, the items contained in the chest vary widely which makes it
difficult to properly evaluate.
As a result, values given in the HOME INSTANCE calculations should be
taken as a minimum and not a maximum.
